Radio Scanner Help
For first time buyers, some radio scanner help will be necessary. To ensure you get your money’s worth, take the following into consideration as you go shopping.
Extent of Frequency Coverage
This will determine what frequencies the scanner can tune into. If you are going to listen to commercial aviation, police and public services, you can go with even the most basic model as these frequencies will be picked up.
On the other hand, TV audio frequency can only be picked up by specially designed units. The same goes for military aviation. Make a list of the frequencies you want to listen to and look for models that can handle those frequencies.
What is Selectivity?
This refers to the clarity with which the unit can tune in to the frequency you select. If you live in areas where there is a lot of radio broadcast, get a unit with high selectivity. This will keep those other signals from breaking in.
What is Sensitivity?
This describes the way the unit can handle weak signals. This may or may not be important depending on what you are going to listen to. You will need this if you are listening to weak transmissions.
Memory
No radio scanner help guide would be complete without a discussion of memory. You should look for models that come with dynamic memory. This will make it easier to check what is available without having to do some programming.
You should look for models that allow you to enable and disable systems with ease. This will allow you to lock out other signals and focus only on those that interest you.
How to Set up a Digital Police Scanner
Be certain there is a battery in the unit first. Next, hit the “manual” button to make the scanner stop scanning. Put in the channel you want to program. If you want to program channel 25, enter 2 and 5 on the keypad.
Hit the “manual” button again. Put in the frequency number. Press “enter” when you are done. Hit “manual”. To add more channels simply repeat these steps. When you are finished, press the “manual” button one more time. The unit will now resume its scanning.
Keep in mind that this radio scanner help guide is not model specific. For more detailed information you should read the help guide that comes with the unit. You can also check out the manufacturer’s website for more information.
